Fishing in Lapland - Fisherman's Paradise

In Central Europe the population density is two hundred inhabitants per square kilometre, in our country it is one. Therefore it is possible that you will not meet anybody at all during a whole week of fishing.

Here in the last wilderness of Europe you will not only find real primeval forests, but also ecologically healthy lakes, streams and rivers. Because there is no intensive agriculture like in Central Europe, which poisons the water with massive use of fertilizers and pesticides.

The fish species in Lapland

The waters around the lodge are full of fish species that have become rare in the rest of Europe due to pollution or overfishing.

The pike is the most common big fish in the waters of Lapland. It is particularly abundant in many large and small lakes, but does not grow significantly longer than one metre everywhere. Very capital specimens live in the Kaitum. Pike up to almost 20 kilos have been caught there.

Perch (Egli) are also numerous in many lakes and reach very good average sizes. It is by no means rare to catch perch that are more than 40, up to 50 cm long.

Trout are found in the fast flowing sections of rivers and streams, but also in some lakes. Here too, lengths of 50 cm were exceeded several times by our guests in 2017.

Arctic chars are found in some deep lakes in the vicinity, often together with lake trout. They also reach lengths over 50 cm.

The Namaycush char originates from Canada and has been released in several lakes in Lapland. There are three lakes near the lodge where it can be fished. One of our guests caught a capital of almost 90 cm in 2017.

The wild salmon can be found in Kaitum and Kalix. From July onwards, with a bit of luck, you can meet the king of the north, who grows to over 1 metre in length, there. Important: To take a salmon in the Kaitum you need a salmon seal.

The grayling is the beautiful queen of the Lapland watercourses. The Kaitum is considered one of the best grayling rivers in the world. Specimens over 40 centimetres are caught almost daily.

You may also encounter minnow and whitefish, burbot, roach, bream and eland.

A special fishing activity is the fishing of professionally equipped fishing kayaks, which we will include in 2018 Guiding will offer.
